Description
Manufactured by AstraZeneca Inc.
EMLA cream is used to freeze the skin, before inserting a needle, or a minor surgical procedure. It may also be used on the genital tissues before a minor surgical procedure. EMLA should be used on the advice of your doctor, if it is used before surgery. This product is often used for people who fear needles, including young children.

How do you take this Medication:
A thick layer of EMLA cream is applied to the skin, in the area where the needle is to be inserted or where the surgery will be done. The cream is covered with an ‘occlusive dressing’ (a special bandage which doesn’t allow the cream to seep through) and the dressing is stuck to the skin. There are instructions about how to apply the cream and dressing on the package. Follow them carefully. EMLA cream should be left in place for at least one hour (or up to 5 hours) before the procedure
or needle stick. Just before the needle stick, the dressing is removed and any remaining cream may be gently rinsed off with clear water. The patch is applied for the same length of time as the cream. The skin or tissue will be numb for up to 2 hours.
